Protein Expression/Purification Facility

The protein expression/purification facility in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology provides the University with the necessary equipment and technical expertise for expression and purification of proteins from various sources. The facility was created in 2002 with a grant from the University and expanded with additional funds from the W. M. Keck Foundation

The operation of the protein expression/purification facility is under the direction of Teri McLain. The facility has three AKTA FPLC chromatography systems, three floor incubator shakers, centrifuges, a sonicator, a UV-VIS spectrophotometer, a microplate reader, and other equipment required to complete work in the protein expression/purification field.

The facility provides the following services:

  • Equipment for research
  • Scientific consulting for technical issues in protein expression/purification
  • Protein expression and purification upon request

The protein expression/purification facility is used mainly by research groups in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, especially the four groups associated with the W.M. Keck Foundation Program in Chromatin Structure and Function. However, the facility is available to all research groups at CSU.
