Protein Expression/Purification Facility

Dr. Hataichanok (Mam) Scherman, Director, 970-491-0838

The protein expression/purification facility in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology provides the University with instrumentation, equipment and technical expertise for the expression and purification of proteins from bacteria and yeast.

The primary goal of the facility is to train scientists to express and purify their own proteins and to offer them laboratory space and equipment with which to work independently.

In addition, the facility offers technical consulting on project specific issues with expression and purification.

Custom protein expression and purification can also be performed upon request.

The facility has the following equipment available:
• Three shaker/incubators for bacteria/yeast fermentation – 6L capacity each
• Centrifugation
• Cell lysis equipment – Sonicator and Tissuemizer
• Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis apparatus
• Three AKTA FPLC chromatography systems – room temp and 4°C
• Chromatography columns – ion exchange, gel filtration and affinity
• UV-VIS spectrophotometer
• Microplate Reader

The protein expression/purification facility is used mainly by research groups in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, however, the facility is available to all research groups at CSU.
