“The Case Against Statistical Significance”

The flagship journal of the American Statistical Association recently published a special issue titled ‘Moving to a World Beyond p < 0.05’.  In the lead editorial of issue, a controversial recommendation was given: we should all stop saying “statistically significant”.  Why do so many statisticians object to the popular use of statistical significance?  What alternatives are available for using data in scientific research?  These are the questions I will be addressing in this talk.
