Norman P. Curthoys

After 38 years in the professorial ranks, 28 of those years at Colorado State University, Professor Norman P. Curthoys retired at the end of the Spring 2015 academic semester. Norm received his PhD from UC Berkeley in 1972. He then completed two years’ of postdoctoral research at Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine before accepting a position as an assistant professor of Biochemistry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. There he was promoted to associate professor, then professor, and was named the William S. McElroy Professor of Biochemistry. He served as both the acting department chair and the department chair, as well as the director of graduate studies. In 1989, he accepted the position of Professor and Department Chair of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Colorado State University, a position he held until 2004. In 1996-97, he was the Fogarty Senior International Guest Professor in the laboratories of Dr. Heini Murer and the University of Zurich and Dr. Gerhard Gstraunthaler at the University of Innsbruck. In 2004, he was a visiting scientist in the laboratory of Kidney Electrolyte Metabolism with Dr. Mark Knepper, Section Chief, NHLBI, National Institutes of Health. From 2005-2008, Dr. Curthoys directed the Cell and Molecular Biology Graduate Program at Colorado State University.
